Where the data sits
Server location and operator are two different questions. A data centre in Germany does not remove the data from US law: providers with a US parent company fall under the CLOUD Act and the surveillance powers of FISA 702, regardless of where the servers stand. Microsoft's chief legal officer in France testified under oath before the French Senate's committee of inquiry on 10 June 2025 that he could not guarantee that data from European data centres would not go to US authorities (record of the Sénat). That is why both are shown side by side here, each with the source it comes from.

All information comes from the providers' publicly available privacy policies and security pages, and the date retrieved is on every card. Providers can change their infrastructure and their processors at any time. The adequacy decision on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework still applies, but is under legal challenge.
What MetronHR does better
The price is on the page, not in a conversation
Planerio has no pricing item in its navigation, and the address for it answers with a 404. Anyone who wants to know what it costs has to enquire and have a conversation. For a business with eight people wanting to put two providers side by side, that is a high first hurdle. At MetronHR the figure is on /preise: 5 euros per person on Team, 10 euros on Professional, cancellable monthly, with no base price. The monthly total can be worked out before the first contact.
An overtime account and working-time models are included
Planerio's feature overview mentions time tracking, time management and the calculation of allowances and premiums. An overtime account with a balance, payout and time off in lieu is not there, nor are working-time models for flexitime, part-time or alternating weekly patterns. At MetronHR both are included in the Team plan: the account carries the balance forward daily, and the model supplies the target hours it is calculated against.
One operator, named, with no US parent
Planerio writes that the hosting servers are in Germany, but in the same section names Amazon Web Services in Seattle and Microsoft in Redmond alongside Hetzner. Which of them carries the application is left open. For businesses in health and social care, which Planerio expressly addresses, that is exactly the question the data protection officer asks. MetronHR names one operator for the application: Hetzner Online GmbH, Nuremberg and Falkenstein.

The template comes as Excel and as CSV, with a second sheet that states for every column whether it is required, its format, an example and the permitted values. If your file's header row matches, the mapping falls away entirely. Otherwise the assistant proposes the mapping and marks everything that did not match word for word.

The dry run is mandatory and writes nothing. It shows for every row whether it will be created, changed, skipped or rejected, naming the column and the value behind the finding. If your duty roster cannot be planned by hand. Planerio relies on rule-based planning automation with absence management, designed for hospitals, ambulance services and businesses with many qualification and collective agreement rules. MetronHR plans shifts and deployments with conflict checks, but does not generate the plan itself. The price of that automation, though, is that you need a conversation before you get a figure, and that an overtime account, working-time models and a personnel file do not appear in Planerio's feature overview.
The website names healthcare, social services and associations, security and rescue, service providers, retail, industry and logistics. Planerio does not list hospitality as an industry of its own. MetronHR is aimed at small and mid-sized businesses of 5 to 100 employees, with dedicated pages for practices, pharmacies, law firms, care, hospitality and trades among others.
Planerio names a public API with its own documentation and over 100 interfaces. Master data, planned and recorded times and absences can be extracted through it. Because no contract model is published, you should check the term in your own contract before switching.
