What MetronHR stores about you, and what it does not

MetronHR records when you worked, to the minute and without rounding. No fingerprint, no face image, no location. You can see your own hours, overtime and holiday days yourself. What your employer does with them is their decision, and this page says nothing about that.

Recorded and not recorded

The left column is what is in the software. The right one is what many people fear first, and what does not exist here.

  • The start, the end and the break of your working time, to the minute

    Is not recorded
Your location. There is no field for it and no location request
  • The card or the account used to clock in

    Is not recorded
A fingerprint or a face image. At the terminal only the card is read
  • Absences by type: holiday, sick, special leave

    Is not recorded
The reason for your sick note. A diagnosis appears nowhere
  • Who changed a time entry, with the time

    Is not recorded
What you do at the computer. There is no screen recording and no keystroke counting

As of 4 September 2026, checked against the software's data model. Which of these fields your employer actually uses, and how long it keeps them, is up to the employer.

What you can see yourself

  • Your hours account with target, actual and the current balance, up to date every day.
  • Your overtime, and whether it is paid out or taken as time off.
  • Your holiday balance, the days left and the deadline by which they have to be taken.
  • Your duty plan or rota, on your phone too.
  • Your own requests and where they stand, without having to ask.

You cannot see your colleagues' data, unless your role expressly provides for it. Who may see what is something your employer sets through roles.

Frequent questions from employees

What we are asked most often about it.

No. MetronHR works out the duration from the start, the end and the break, to the minute. There is no rounding to quarter or half hours, neither up nor down. If you start at 07:04, you started at 07:04.

No. At the terminal only the card is read. Whatever fingerprint or face recognition a device ships with is switched off in operation. That removes the whole question of biometric data under Article 9 GDPR.

Not through MetronHR. The software records no location: there is no field for it and no request to the location services, neither in the app nor in the browser. What is recorded is when work happened, not where.

Yes. You can see your hours account, your overtime, your holiday balance and your duty plan without having to ask anyone. What you cannot see is your colleagues' data, unless you have a role that expressly provides for it.

Change them yes, unnoticed no. In the Professional plan the change history records who changed what and when. Your employer can also lock the month; after that a correction runs as a change request that is decided rather than simply overwritten.

That is their decision, not ours. Which reports run, who sees them and how long data is kept is set by the employer, and in businesses with a works council together with that council. Under § 87 (1) no. 6 BetrVG, introducing time tracking is subject to co-determination as soon as it is capable of monitoring performance.

Yes. Since the Federal Labour Court decision of 13 September 2022 (1 ABR 22/21) employers are obliged to record working time, derived from § 3 (2) no. 1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. No particular form is prescribed so far, so paper would be permissible.

Are hours still worked out on paper where you are?
