The timr alternative with a personnel file and planning
timr covers working time, project time and absences, plus a mileage log. MetronHR adds a personnel file, onboarding workflows, shift and duty planning and client allowances, for 5 euros instead of 8.
All information about timr comes from the official provider pages. As at:2. September 2026.

Sources and notes (8)
- 1. timr, Traffic-light account (warning levels with an automatic alert): The product page mentions working time recording including overtime. Warning levels on the working-time account with an automatic alert are not listed there (timr.com, retrieved 14 September 2026).
- 2. MetronHR, Shift and duty planning / roster: An optional module, included in the Professional plan and activated per company, either as shift planning or as duty planning with a day plan. MetronHR also works entirely without both.
- 3. timr, Shift and duty planning / roster: timr records working time but does not plan it. The provider does not list shift or roster planning among its products.
- 4. timr, Allowances / hour packages: Project times with budget control exist. Client-bound hour packages with periodic renewal and carry-over are not documented.
- 5. timr, Digital Employee File: timr has a guide article on the digital personnel file, but no product. Contracts, documents with expiry dates and employee self-service are not part of the feature set.
- 6. timr, Onboarding and offboarding workflows: No process for joining and leaving with tasks, owners and deadlines is documented.
- 7. MetronHR, Hosting operator without a US parent company: The operator is Hetzner Online GmbH, a German company with no US parent. This marketing website is hosted with Vercel, Inc. (USA) in the Frankfurt region, where no employee data is processed.
- 8. timr, Hosting operator without a US parent company: timr names Germany as its server location and ISO/IEC 27001 certified data centres but does not name the operator. The provider is troii Software GmbH from Austria, with no US parent.

Where the data sits
Server location and operator are two different questions. A data centre in Germany does not remove the data from US law: providers with a US parent company fall under the CLOUD Act and the surveillance powers of FISA 702, regardless of where the servers stand. Microsoft's chief legal officer in France testified under oath before the French Senate's committee of inquiry on 10 June 2025 that he could not guarantee that data from European data centres would not go to US authorities (record of the Sénat). That is why both are shown side by side here, each with the source it comes from.
What is compared is what the provider documents for its own application, not the infrastructure of its marketing website. More about our own hosting is in the Trust Center.
MetronHR
- Server location of the application
- Hetzner Online GmbH, Nuremberg and Falkenstein. All servers stand exclusively in Germany.
- Operator and legal jurisdiction
- Hetzner Online GmbH, a German company with no US parent and therefore beyond the reach of the CLOUD Act and FISA 702. No US provider sits in the data path for the application.
- Processors outside Germany
- None for the application. Payment is handled by Stripe Payments Europe (Ireland). This marketing website is hosted with Vercel, Inc. (USA, Frankfurt region), and analytics run through PostHog Cloud EU and the reverse proxy cdn.metronhr.de with a Cloudflare edge. No employee data is processed there.

timr
- Server location of the application

- Operator and legal jurisdiction
- Not named. The provider is troii Software GmbH from Wels, Austria, a company with no US parent. timr guarantees 95 per cent availability on an annual average.
- Processors outside Germany
- None named for the application. For reviews timr embeds ProvenExpert, and for the website its own tracking with a consent manager.

What MetronHR does better
The personnel file in the same system as the time
timr explains the digital personnel file in a guide article and does not offer one itself. Contracts, salary letters, social security, health insurance, documents with expiry dates and self-service for employees therefore sit outside. MetronHR keeps the file per person with role permissions and expiry reminders, connected to the same time management.
Recording and planning in the same tool
timr records when work was done. Anyone who has to determine in advance who works when needs a second tool or a spreadsheet. MetronHR plans shifts with templates and patterns as well as the day in 15-minute steps with activities, staffing rules and qualification requirements, and puts plan and actual side by side in the same report.
5 euros instead of 8, from the first user
timr quotes a standard price of 8 euros per user per month, and from 20 people an individual quote is prepared. MetronHR costs 5 euros on the Team plan and 10 euros on Professional, regardless of team size, with no quotation process and no choice of term. For a team of twelve needing working time, holiday and overtime that is 60 euros instead of 96 euros a month.
Client allowances with renewal and carry-over
timr controls project budgets. What is missing is the hour package sold per client that renews monthly and carries unused hours over. MetronHR keeps these allowances with a usage view, automatic renewal and a prepared invoice.
Price comparison
timr quotes one standard price for all features, MetronHR two plans. The comparison therefore depends on which features are actually needed.

Fromtimr moving to MetronHR
Your data comes with you.timr hands them over as a file, MetronHR reads people, personal data, hours and absences out of it, and before anything is taken over you see row by row what will happen. For a team under thirty people that is a matter of one to two hours, most of it spent putting the file together.
- 1
Attimr export
- Reports and analyses as PDF and Excel
- An export with the employee details including the working-time model, annual holiday, team and joining and leaving dates
- 2
Load the template and map the columns
The template comes as Excel and as CSV, with a second sheet that states for every column whether it is required, its format, an example and the permitted values. If your file's header row matches, the mapping falls away entirely. Otherwise the assistant proposes the mapping and marks everything that did not match word for word.
- 3
Check, then take it over
The dry run is mandatory and writes nothing. It shows for every row whether it will be created, changed, skipped or rejected, naming the column and the value behind the finding. Only the second click takes it over, in one transaction. The default is "create new ones only", and an empty cell never changes a value that has been maintained.

Frequently asked questions
What you need to know about switching from timr to MetronHR.
timr quotes a standard price of 8 euros per user per month, with a choice of 1, 3 or 6 month terms and an unquantified discount on an annual subscription; from 20 people there is an individual quote. For one person with one feature there is a permanently free plan. MetronHR costs 5 euros on the Team plan and 10 euros on Professional, with no choice of term and no quotation process. As at 2 September 2026.
timr's free plan applies to one person and a single feature, so either working time or project time or the mileage log. For a business it is not an entry point but an offer for sole traders. MetronHR is designed for teams and instead offers 14 days with the full feature set, without a credit card and without automatic renewal.
If you need an electronic mileage log. That is core product at timr and absent from MetronHR, and anyone organising installation work, field service or property management should pay attention to it. For everything else the price is worth a look: timr costs 8 euros per user per month, from 20 people by quote only, and a personnel file, onboarding workflows, a duty roster and client allowances are missing there. MetronHR brings them from 5 euros per person, with no choice of term and no quotation process.
By its own account timr runs on servers in Germany, in data centres certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2013, with hourly and daily backups and a mirrored failover system. timr does not name the operator. The provider is troii Software GmbH from Austria, a company with no US parent. MetronHR runs at Hetzner Online GmbH in Nuremberg and Falkenstein.
A digital personnel file, onboarding and offboarding workflows, shift and duty planning with staffing rules, and client-bound hour packages with renewal and carry-over. timr in turn covers the mileage log, which MetronHR deliberately leaves out; on working-time models both are well set up, with MetronHR additionally checking against the Working Time Act and offering a public holiday calendar for all 16 federal states.
Yes, for working and project times, clients, projects and absences; timr offers reports and a documented API. Mileage log data cannot be carried over, because MetronHR does not keep a mileage log. Anyone who still needs it should settle before switching which tool takes on that job.
