Does the gap in a split shift count as rest?

No. Both parts belong to the working time of the same day, and the eleven hours of rest under section 5(1) ArbZG only start after the second part ends. The gap is an interruption and can count as a break under section 4 ArbZG.

May the rest period be shorter in hospitality?

Yes, to ten hours, if every shortening is compensated within a calendar month or four weeks by a rest period of at least twelve hours (section 5(2) ArbZG). In the template, set the minimum rest at the top to 10 for this.

Do working hours in hospitality have to be recorded in a special way?

Yes. The hospitality and accommodation trade is listed in section 2a SchwarzArbG. Under section 17 MiLoG, the start, end and duration of daily working time of all employees have to be recorded by the end of the seventh calendar day and kept for two years. The duty roster alone is not enough, it shows the planned time.

What applies to anyone working on a Sunday?

Restaurants may employ people on Sundays (section 10(1) no. 4 ArbZG). At least 15 Sundays a year stay free, and every Sunday worked brings a replacement rest day within two weeks (section 11 ArbZG). The template flags the week with a note.
