When Excel reaches its limits

The long Saturday needs a 45-minute break. The plan usually says half an hour.

MetronHR checks breaks, rest and maximum hours while you plan, in the Professional plan. People clock in at the till via a terminal or in the app, and at month end the hours go to the accountant as a payroll file.

How much break are sales staff entitled to?

30 minutes for more than six hours, 45 minutes for more than nine hours, divisible into parts of at least 15 minutes (section 4 ArbZG). A Saturday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm therefore needs 45 minutes, not 30.

Do mini-jobbers in retail have to be recorded?

Yes. For mini-jobbers, the start, end and duration of daily working time have to be recorded by the end of the seventh calendar day and kept for two years (section 17 MiLoG). For everyone else the duty from the Federal Labour Court decision of 13 September 2022 applies.

Does the works council have a say on the duty roster?

Yes, if there is one. The start and end of daily working time and its distribution across the days of the week are subject to co-determination (section 87(1) no. 2 BetrVG).
